I just wanted to let everyone know that Ryan Bednar (center) has made Dean’s List and Jonathan Dorogy (slot back) has made Gold Stars in their last academic semester – and both of these Cadets have rank in the Corps…

Ty Buckiso won Outstanding Freshman Wrestler of the Year this past season. Ty is the grandson of Pat Magnotti ’63. Presently, he is recovering from knee surgery. Ty is in D company and making good grades. We are very very proud of his accomplishments during his freshman year!

We are very proud of our own Gracie Jenkins from Cleveland for breaking the track record described below – way to go Gracie – we will be cheering for you! Gracie’s older Brother, Jim Jenkins, will be 1st Battalion Commander next year!

Grace Jenkins set The Citadel freshman 10,000 meters record and moved to No. 2 in all-time history with a mark of 39:57 to lead the Bulldogs on day one of the Shamrock Invitational in Conway, S.C.

Jenkins’ time earned her an eighth place finish overall in the event!

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –The Citadel wrestling team received a pair of all ­conference recognition’s on Tuesday when Aaron Walker and Ty Buckiso were recognized by the Southern Conference coaches. Buckiso, one of seven members of the SoCon All­Freshman team, closed out the season 19­14 overall and 5­2 in the league in the 141 divison. He notched one victory by pin and was 6­6 in dual matches. Buckiso, who won by forfeit against Campbell, collected his first league victories in January against Ryan Hall (Gardner­Webb) and Micheal Longo (Appalachian State). The Venetia, Pa., native closed out the regular season with a series of wins against Emmitt Kelly (VMI) and Dustin Runzo (Davidson). The Bulldogs head to Asheville, N.C., on Saturday for the SoCon Championship. The event will take place on the campus on UNC Asheville at Kimmel Arena. This year will be the 78th annual Southern Conference Wrestling Championship.

Jonathan Dorogy (redshirt Freshman, slot receiver) from Seneca Valley HS on a full FB Scholarship chats with Darien Robinson (Senior FB) from McKeesport HS, who was a preseason All American, scored 3 touchdowns in the victory over Samford University. Darien is 6th on The Citadel all-time rushing list with 3 games left in the season.

Ryan Bednar, center on The Citadel Football team, from South Allegheny HS, explains to Matt Larkin, Paul Pienody, and Dave Domino his injury that caused him to leave the game. Ryan is a Freshmen FB player on a full scholarship and is seeing significant playing time as a true Freshman at The Citadel.

Jonathan Dorogy – Citadel Recruit

Yesterday Jonathan Dorogy, Center Fielder for Seneca Valley HS, leadoff hitter, hit a double his first time at bat. His team beat Bethel Park 2-0 in the first round of the WPIAL Baseball Playoffs. His team is seeded first in the entire WPIAL Tournament.

Today, Jonathan will compete in the WPIAL track championships at Baldwin HS with his teammate, Forrest Barns.  They will be competing and trying to set 100M dash and 4×100 relay.

Pennsylvania East West All Star Game in Downingtown, Pennsylvania on Sunday May 5th.  Ryanwas selected captain of the defensive unit for the West by the coaches.  He play the entire game and did an outstanding job.  Please note: the Citadel decals on the back Ryan’s helmet!

Last night at the Parents request – numerous Alumni met these three fine young football players from Western Pennsylvania – left to right –

Jonathan Dorogy – Seneca Valley – finished 3rd last week in All Pennsylvania Track meet

Ryan Bednar - 6-3, 290 from South Allegheny, Center – benched 225 lbs – 27 times – Pro Level

All of these fine young men have good grades and come from outstanding families – The Citadel will be proud to graduate these men in 4 years – ALL are coming down mid June to take 2 summer classes and get a head start on grades, conditioning and weight training!

Ryan will be down next week for the spring game – Jonathan is busy playing center field for the High School Baseball team.

In the fall we will have a total of 6 players from Western Pa – Joe Phillips, Darien Robinson and Ben Dupree. Go Dawgs!

Two Citadel Football Recruits on Campus.

Cadet Frank “Skip” Murphy ’65 , from Pittsburgh and a member of the Pittsburgh Citadel Club.

Skip was a Cadet 1st Lt, Distinguished Military Army Student and Captain of the Football Team in 1964-65.  Skip was killed in action on the Michelin Rubber Plantation in Viet Nam on December 7, 1966 while trying to rescue a platoon who was under fire of the North Vietnamese.  A statue of Skip and Joe Missar is located at the football field where the Citadel Football players come onto the field before a football game.  All of the players touch the statue for good luck and remembrance of the two fallen heroes.

-Joe Missar, was a co-captain with Skip on the same football team and was killed in action in Viet Nam while serving a second lieutenant in the Marine Corps.

-These photos are displayed in The Citadel’s football offices of Skip.  Similar photos are also displayed of Joe Missar.

-These were the only two co-captains of any NCAA football team that were killed in any US war.

-Both Skip and Joe are buried in Arlington Cemetery about 100 yards from one another.

Cortez now plays defensive halfback for the Pittsburgh Steelers and is in his 2nd year in professional football.

Lynn Foltz ’65, Ben Dupree (Quarterback from Susquehanna High School), Darien Robinson (Running Back from McKeesport High School), and guest, gather in The Citadel’s football offices to greet one another.

Both Ben and Darien were starters on last year’s football team.  They are both rising juniors in the Corps of Cadets.

Offensive Coordinator, Coach Bob Bodine, welcomes Lynn Foltz ’65 and friends to the Citadel’s football offices.

The Citadel Rallies Past Samford in Season Finale, 13-12.

Birmingham, Ala. - A late fourth quarter rally powered the Bulldogs to their first Southern Conference victory of the season and road conference win in three years in a 13-12 win over Samford before a season finale crowd of 6,945 at Seibert Stadium on Saturday.
